BYD has partnered with Absa to introduce a range of sustainable vehicle finance solutions aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in South Africa.

Chinese new-energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer WORLD and Absa have teamed up to launch a green vehicle finance solution in South Africa. The collaboration between two companies is focused on supporting Absa’s broader climate strategy and the Shenzhen automaker’s mission to make premium electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible in emerging markets such as ours. The newly formed alliance aims to give South Africans access to exclusive finance offers when purchasing BYD vehicles, including the Dolphin and Seal, through Absa’s digital platform.

“We’re excited to lead the way in supporting green mobility,” said Charl Potgieter, Absa Managing Executive of Asset and Vehicle Finance. “This partnership forms part of our sustainable lending journey and supports the development of a green transport ecosystem. Through tailored finance solutions, we aim to reduce the cost barrier that currently limits EV adoption.”

The deal marks BYD’s first formal vehicle finance arrangement in South Africa, and is designed to streamline the purchasing process through Absa’s end-to-end digital platform.

The partnership supports BYD’s plans to expand its dealer footprint across major cities in our country and comes shortly after the launch of the Dolphin, the brand’s first EV offering in South Africa. The Seal is set to follow later this year.

As part of its Net Zero ambition, Absa also plans to expand its role in green finance beyond passenger vehicles, creating a long-term ecosystem for cleaner transport options. The partnership aims to increase the accessibility of BYD vehicles, particularly their existing EV lineup.
