Autostat: car imports to Russia fell four times

The reduction in imports is due to two factors: the first is the development of local assembly of Chinese cars, and the second is a strong "overstock" of distributors' and dealers' warehouses

In May 2025, 17.8 thousand new cars were imported into Russia, which is four times (-74.2%) less than in May 2024 (68.9 thousand units). Such data was provided by the director of the agency "Autostat" Sergey Tselikov.

"A significant reduction in imports is due to two factors. The first is the development of local assembly of Chinese cars. The second is a strong "overstock" of distributors' and dealers' warehouses. Demand is still significantly lower than supply," the expert explained.

The share of car imports through parallel imports in the total volume in May amounted to 41% (7.3 thousand cars). Official deliveries amounted to only about 10.5 thousand pieces.

The leaders among the brands in terms of official supplies were:

Changan (38% of all shipments);

Haval (11%);

GAC (8%).

Under parallel imports, cars of familiar brands were most often imported, but even there are "Chinese":

Toyota (15% of all alternative supplies);

BMW (9%);

Geely (9%);

Lixiang (8%).

Most of the imported cars came from China (70%). Other import destinations include Kyrgyzstan (9%), South Korea (7%) and Belarus (5%).
