The demand for personal chargers for electric vehicles in our country has doubled. This is reported by Izvestia with reference to the Association of Manufacturers and Operators of Electric Charging Stations (APOE). They note that this trend became most noticeable after the interruptions in the supply of fuel began, that is, from June of this year.
Most of all, consumers are in demand for inexpensive slow stations with a capacity of 7 kW, which allow you to charge a vehicle overnight. These are mainly devices from China. The chairman of the association, Armen Safaryan, notes that these can be both reliable manufacturers and companies with a dubious reputation in terms of electrical safety, whose products are sold through marketplaces.
Personal chargers are bought by owners of electric cars and hybrids. The growth driver was the demand for cars of the Evolute, Geely and GAC brands. The fact is that their cars are offered without standard chargers, which have to be purchased additionally.
According to an APOE survey conducted late last year, 59% of electric vehicle owners and 47% of plug-in hybrid owners have charged their vehicles at home or in an underground parking lot. To do this, a personal charging station or a standard cable was used, which is connected to a 220 V household outlet.
Since the beginning of June, the demand for the services of public charging stations has increased by 15-20% and remains at this level, Safaryan notes. The main increase was provided by owners of hybrid models: they began to charge cars more often and drive mainly on electric traction, without the use of fuel.
The head of the association also clarified that the increased demand for charging services does not lead to a significant increase in the load on the power grid. Hybrids usually charge for a short time and consume 20 – 40 kWh, while a full-fledged electric car requires about 80 kWh.
You can find out how many charging stations for electric vehicles and hybrids there are in Russia from the specialized report "Monitoring of electric charging stations in the Russian Federation", prepared by AUTOSTAT experts.
