GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group Motor Co.) entered South Africa in 2024, first launching the GS3 Emzoom crossover-hatch, followed by the Emkoo SUV. Though new to local buyers, our initial driving impressions, particularly on the GS3 Emzoom, were favourable, owing to its smart finishes and willing powertrain. 2025 started with a bang for GAC when the automaker announced massive price cuts throughout its portfolio, citing a commitment to our market “through scaled global cost-reduction initiatives.” While there is no official date yet, the all-electric Aion Y SUV is set to become the brand’s third model. Locally, the Salvador Caetano Group handles vehicle distribution, spare parts, and servicing.
